Hey! So I have a 99 corolla I got super cheap a while ago and the power steering crapped out pretty fast. The leak is very severe and I was told I need to replace the rack and pinion as well as the lines. I am curious if you know of any way to replace it without removing the subframe? or how to remove it just partially if that is possible?

Cars maintenance is just a puzzle that takes time and strength. It’s legitimately designed so you’ll go “gee…I guess I’ll just pay the garage” If it’s in your budget I guess. But once you learn cars you learn how full of garbage everyone who owns a garage is. Right up there is lawyers but at least lawyers are educated. Car guys mostly know the simplest task before confidently telling you your car is really really bad.

The only part that gave me any trouble was getting the ribbon to lock in. It's a bit short but persevere. They say to not touch the screen so I wore latex gloves and peeled off the protective plastic when it was locked in place. Total cost was 45 dollars Canadian.

Thanks. I had to fiddle with the ribbon cable as it wasn't seated properly first but you helped me save a lot compared to what I got quoted. I did this in Ford focus 2016 diesel 1.5 ecoboost for reference

I very much appreciate content creators who produce content that actually helps people. ❤ thank you for this video. You may not have saved me much work 😅😅 (looks awful lol) but you’ve saved me a ton of money and since I’m a broke mama bear, I very much appreciate this video ❤❤❤. We need to petition these car manufacturers to stop rigging everything to go to the dealership so they can make extra $ off of us who aren’t as able to do our own repairs by the way. This is ridiculous just to replace a headlight bulb!!!!

Minor correction, the oil capacity in an AllTrack is 5.7 LITERS, not quarts like you said. Measured in quarts, oil capacity is 6 (according to my 2017 user manual). Another thing worth mentioning is the rod that sits inside the filter (I think it's the anti-drainback valve) sometimes comes out attached to the filter housing instead of staying in the engine as it does in your video. I don't think it matters either way as it has O-rings on each end, but I was a bit confused the first time it happened. Some of the other videos showing this procedure show the rod coming out with the filter cover. They changed the design of this part so how it comes out varies by year.

Honestly, one of the best replacement guide videos I've seen for this year Corolla. I know this is a 7 year old video and you may even make better ones now, but everything was clear and concise enough. I have to replace my rack, second time since I've owned this car in 2010. It made it to at least 2019 without the rack leaking (oem). Replaced it with a reman, now I have to replace it again this year (although 5 to 6 years seems average for replaced units). Decided to just buy completely new, no reman, maybe it'll last until the car finally falls apart lol I'm not interested in doing this myself, but at least I can help my mechanic as we're doing it without a lift too.

I did this over the last two years. All OEM lemforder with Sachs sport struts . I did press in x5 front (rearward ) bushings that have worked beautifully keeping the factory smoothness without the early failure and steering wheel shimmy at 50mph. One other upgrade was the power flex rear subframe bushing INSERTS installed 2 days ago. It was one of the best upgrades I be done. The original bushings were ok (no crack or tears) but too much tramlining ,excess body roll and general loose filling from the rear. All fixed and feels very similar to my e39 M5. Totally planted but with an OPen diff feel (m5 LSD is one of the most noticeable differences between them. The 540i sport 6speed should’ve had that from factory. The m5 puts power down in a sports car like fashion. Planted around corners under hard acceleration and a progressive oversteer. Both are great.

Up until 2020 you could take your Subie into a Subaru dealer and they would replace headlamps for free except for the cost of the bulb. I bought the car in the states but live in Vancouver Canada. I would drive down to Bellingham to have the headlamp replaced. I called them after Covid and they said the Subaru no longer would do this for no free. Subaru Canada never replaced headlights for free. I had some friends replace my headlamp once and the little clip was super hard as you can't really see it and you have to replace it by feel. Sigh...

Nice tool and good review. I just don’t understand why someone would wear gloves for a cordless screwdriver review? I only wear gloves when necessary to protect my hands from cutting, abrasions, splinters, chemicals or heat. Nothing like having the manual dexterity of holding things with a bare hand such as small bolts, screws, nuts, etc.

I've had to change my step sons bulbs too many times! Here's a few tips. After getting to the bulb housing, take a magic marker and mark it and the housing so you know where up is. Then do the same thing to the back of bulb before removing it. Makes it easier to line things up on the install. Also if the O-ring on the cover falls apart (ours was badly cracked) Don't go to Subaru to replace it. They wont have it. Take it to a parts store and get the same diameter rubber tubing, cut it to size, crazy glue the ends together, lightly grease it and replace the cover. Now I gotta ask. Has anyone replaced the OEM style bulbs for LEDs? This seems to happen too often. Great/helpful video BTW. Helped me alot the first time.
